Polaris Dance Center hosted a 9-week workshop taught by Colleen Genuine, designed to introduce the basics of spinning Poi - a performance art in which flaming balls, suspended from a length of plaited cord are swung in circular patterns. Poi is one of the traditional performing arts of the Maori people of New Zealand. Today it is practiced worldwide and is an excellent exercise to challenge spatial awareness. Don’t worry, Polaris didn't play with fire in this introductory course, but there will be a professional demonstration to wrap up the workshop, which ends December 15.
